"There are several main types of pollution and well-known effects of pollution which are commonly discussed. These include smog, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and "holes" in the ozone layer. Each of these problems has serious implications for our health and well-being as well as for the whole environment."

Part of a series of three pictures that I created on the feelings created by living in a city. When I first moved to a city in 1995 I was interested at how different the pace and quality of life were to what I was used to. These images show my thoughts on a few issues city life raises.

This detail shows tubes connected to the skull showing that it is being fed from a source outside the image. Almost as if the head is being inflated by poisons and smoke coming from the pipes.

I wanted to show the skull being cracked and fragile but menacing and evil. The poisons drip down the chin and out of the frame.

Originally I had wanted to put the image of skies in the empty sockets of the skull but there was not enough depth to the image so I darkened the sockets. However the image of the moon that had been there became an image of an eye and gives the feeling that the skull is looking at you.
