"The very first robot football tournament - the Robocup - was held in Nagayo, Japan in 1997. The super-computer ‘Deep Blue' had, that very year, beaten world champion Garry Kasparov in a game of chess. So the idea was to issue a new challenge to researchers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) - what about developing a team of football-playing robots capable of beating humans by 2050?"

The second design for a future footballer, I wanted to make a faster looking character to complement the first robot. I wanted to give the feeling of light armour strengthened in certain areas.

I gave the robot goggle like 'eyes' to give the impression of a greater field of view. I designed these to look like sporting goggles that wrap right around the head.

A mask is on the front of the head to look like a gasmask or breathing apparatus but as this a purely mechanical creation it would be unnecessary. Maybe it would be a system for cooling the unit.
